THE FLASHES

THE TWENTY-SECOND FLASH

I now present this highly confidential treatise, which I wrote twenty-two years ago in Barla, a village in the province of Isparta, and which at the time I showed only to my most trusted, devoted, and sincere brothers, to the just governor of Isparta, its judicial authorities, and its police, for it demonstrates my bond with the people and administration of Isparta.

If deemed appropriate, a few copies may be typed out, whether in the new or the old script, so that those who have sought to uncover my secrets and kept me under surveillance for the past twenty-five or thirty years may understand that we have no secrets to conceal. Let it be known that this very treatise is our most closely guarded secret.

Said Nursi

The Three Indications

This section originally formed part of the Third Matter of the Seventeenth Note of the Seventeenth Flash. However, owing to the gravity and breadth of the questions it addresses, and the strength and clarity of its answers, it was included as the Twenty-Second Flash of the Thirty-First Letter.

It merits a separate place in The Flashes and is confidential, intended exclusively for our most devoted, sincere, and faithful brothers.

This matter consists of three indications.

The First Indication

An important question concerning myself and the Risale-i Nur:

Many people ask: “Although you do not interfere in the affairs of worldly people, why do they continually interfere in your affairs of the Hereafter, when no law of any government interferes with one who has turned away from the world and lives in seclusion?”

The Answer: The New Said's response to this question is silence. He says, “Let Divine Decree answer on my behalf.”

Nevertheless, the Old Said, whom he has been compelled, as it were, to borrow for a time, says the following:

It is the government of Isparta and the people of this province who should answer this question. For they are more deeply concerned than I am with what lies behind it. Since the government, with its thousands of officials, and the people, numbering in the hundreds of thousands, are obliged to consider this matter on my behalf and defend me, why should I needlessly engage with my accusers and undertake my own defence?
