THE FLASHES

The Thirtieth Flash

And it is as though the adorned gifts, decorations, and insignia bestowed upon that tree by the Eternal Sultan were being presented for His inspection during the tree’s own special festival and ceremonial opening—the season of spring.

The tree has been endowed with such an elegant, balanced, orderly, and meaningful form, and fashioned with such wisdom and beauty that every flower and every fruit bears witness, through numerous interwoven signs and proofs, to the existence and Names of its Designer.

For example, within every flower and every fruit there is a measure. That measure exists within an order; that order within an ever-renewed arrangement and balance; that arrangement and balance within adornment and artistry; and that adornment and artistry within meaningful fragrances and wisely fashioned flavours.

Thus, every flower points to the Hakam-i Dhul-Jalāl as many times as there are flowers upon that tree.

And within this tree, which is a word, there is a fruit, which is a letter; and within that fruit is a seed, which is a point and, like a little chest, contains the index and programme of the entire tree. And so on.

By analogy, through the manifestations of the Names al-Hakam and al-Hakīm, every page, every line, every word, every letter and every point in the book of the universe has been made into a miracle, such that even if all causes were to unite, they could neither produce the equal of a single point nor rival it.

Indeed, since every verse of the Mighty Qur’an of the Universe—that is, every created being—displays as many miracles as there are letters and points within it, unrestrained chance, blind force and purposeless, measureless, unconscious nature can have no part whatsoever in such wise, discerning, precisely measured and exquisitely ordered creation.

Had they played any part in it, disorder would inevitably have appeared. Yet no disorder whatsoever can be observed.

The Second Point

This consists of two matters.

The First Matter

As explained in the Tenth Word, it is a fundamental and universal principle that supreme perfection accompanied by supreme beauty, and supreme beauty accompanied by supreme perfection, necessarily seek to behold and display themselves, to manifest themselves and make themselves known.

In accordance with this fundamental and universal principle, the Eternal Designer of this great book of the universe makes Himself known through the universe itself—through every page and every line, and even through its letters and points. He makes known His perfections, reveals His beauty, and seeks to make Himself loved. Through the many languages of every created being, from the most particular to the most universal, He makes known and loved the beauty of His perfection and the perfection of His beauty.
