THE FLASHES

The Thirtieth Flash

By mentioning the balance (mīzān) four times in the following verses of Surah ar-Rahmān:

وَالسَّمَاۤءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ الْمِيزَانَ ۞ اَلاَّ تَطْغَوْا فِى الْمِيزَانِ ۞ وَاَقِيمُوا الْوَزْنَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلاَ تُخْسِرُوا الْميِزَانَ

the Qur’an points to four degrees and four forms of balance, thereby revealing its sublime greatness and extraordinary significance throughout the universe.

Indeed, just as there is no real waste anywhere, so too is there no true injustice or genuine lack of balance.

And the cleansing and purity arising from the supreme manifestation of the Name al-Quddūs cleanse and beautify all beings throughout the universe. So long as the soiled hand of humanity does not interfere, no real impurity or genuine ugliness can be found in anything.

Understand, then, how fundamental justice, frugality, and cleanliness—which are among the truths of the Qur’an and the principles of Islam—are to human life. And know that the commands of the Qur’an are so deeply connected with the universe, so firmly rooted in it and interwoven throughout it, that to undermine these truths would be as impossible as overturning the universe or changing its very form.

And just as these three sublime lights do, so too do hundreds of all-encompassing truths, such as mercy, providence, and preservation, require and necessitate the Resurrection and the Hereafter.

Is it conceivable, then, that such powerful and all-encompassing truths as mercy, providence, justice, wisdom, frugality, and cleanliness, which govern the universe and all beings, could be transformed into mercilessness, injustice, meaninglessness, waste, impurity, and futility in the absence of the Resurrection and without the coming of the Hereafter?

No, a hundred thousand times no!

Could a mercy and wisdom that compassionately preserve even the right to life of a fly allow the countless rights to life of all conscious beings and the infinite rights of all creatures to be lost by failing to bring about the Resurrection?

And could the majesty of Divine Lordship, which displays infinite care and precision in its mercy, compassion, justice, and wisdom, and the sovereignty of Divinity, which has adorned this universe with countless wondrous works of art and blessings in order to manifest His perfections and make Himself known and loved, ever permit the absence of the Resurrection, which would reduce both His perfections and all His creatures to nothingness and negate them?

Never! Such absolute beauty cannot permit such absolute ugliness.

Indeed, whoever wishes to deny the Hereafter must first deny the entire world together with all its truths. Otherwise, the world, with all its truths, will refute him in a hundred thousand tongues and prove the falsity of his claim in a hundred thousand ways.

The Tenth Word has established through conclusive proofs that the existence of the Hereafter is as certain and beyond doubt as the existence of this world itself.
